Katy Perry at the Grand Final
Need to know Em's thoughts on Katy Perry's performance at the grand final. I love Tina Arena but are now deeply confused as to why she was chosen to sing I kissed girl. I am also wondering if like me, does Em think Katy's mic is a dick and balls and if she entered the stadium riding a massive sperm?
To rise above or stand alone
Hi Em, Long time listener, first time asker! I live in a tiny outback town, I came here 12 years ago to work for 12months and go back to “my real life” instead I met a tall dark and handsome farmer and stayed! We have 4 kids (7,3.5,20 months and 2 months) and I pride myself on being an open, loving, and accepting person and parent. I drill into my older two that the most important thing you can be in life is kind - kind to yourself and kind to others. While the people in my community would give you the shirt off their back and be there to help if you were ever in need, I struggle with the obvious elevated level of patriarchal society it is. I don’t know if it’s being busy with kids and farm life or discovering I’m actually AuDHD, but I’m finding myself with less patience for the women and men in my community. I want friends but also don’t want to spend my life biting my tongue every time the casual sexism, racism, patriarchal, and homophobic conversations or jokes happen just for the sake of being the only one who says how awful those views actually are. How do I balance not surrounding myself with people who don’t realise or care to realise their privilege and what a straight white life we have, and actually have friends who I enjoy being around?
Megastars cancelling shows
We love Chappel Roan and having so much fame so fast must feel like being shot out of a cannon into the sun. Do you think that cancelling shows, even for such understandable reasons, makes it hard for other smaller artists to sell tickets? Obviously she's in a totally different stratosphere to most artists and at the moment will probably sell out whatever venues she's playing, but having just worked your Sarah Connor-esque ass off to tour, do you think having a few high profile cancellations (also looking at you, Madonna and Jennifer Lynn Lopez) undermines confidence more generally, and maybe subconsciously, in the ticket-buying public?
