Autistic and thriving

Hi Em, I am very confident now that I am undiagnosed neurodivergent, specifically autistic. However, I find there are really no negative implications on my life. I find the things that make me different have helped me in allot of ways as I’ve gotten older, specially not caring much about what people think of me, no fear around public speaking, the ability to be honest without being mean. My brain is clearly different but I have surrounded myself with people who love me for it. I find people who think I am “too much” are just not my people. I think because I am medicated with an SSRI for anxiety this may help. In my 20s my personality got me in more trouble but as I am now older, I have harnessed my power for good not evil. Do you think sometimes it’s okay to not get a formal diagnosis as I don’t feel I am struggling with it, but in fact thriving? Love you, thank you for teaching me to never be small, never roll over and never dull my beautiful sparkle.

Sassy animal sidekick

So, as I listened to or saw the ad for anomalous, my first question is (coz I reckon you’ve thought about this Em!), tell me about your sassy animal sidekick. I know you’re pictured with the unicorn, but would it be a unicorn? Somehow I picture you more with a cross between Iago from Aladdin and Mushu from Mulan, maybe in the shape of a crow?? but keen to hear what you’re thinking! Love your work! Row

Understanding my friends boyfriend

Hi Em, I have a friend who has been together with her boyfriend for 1 year now and the boyfriend has been doing a few things that have rubbed people up the wrong way. I will advise that he does have autism and cerebral palsy, so listening to anomalous has been really beneficial in understanding the neurodivergent community. I’m just not sure if the particular behaviours are attributed to his neurodiversity. 3 examples I can advise of some behaviour is one time my friend and her mum were talking and the boyfriend proceeded to come up behind my friend (his girlfriend) and cup her breasts in front of the mother. You can understand how that went down. Another time he punched our mutual friend in the arm after our shared friend (the girlfriend) told him to in a joking manner to do so. She did not intend for him to punch her in the arm. This friend was female and according to her it was harder than a playful punch and offended her. He also proceeds to lean on my friend like she is a leaning post. She is quite short and he is taller and this to me is such a bothersome trait. I am sure my friend doesn’t like it but she puts up with it. He can be very honest and no filter which I understand is his autism and am happy to move on and understand that just a part of him. Learning from Emsolation or anomalous is teaching me way to understand him better. Do you think the behaviours I have explained also comes down to autism or could this also come down to his character and the type of person he is? I have never raised this with him or my friend and I want to be better at not taking offence to any of these behaviours and just want my friend to be happy. Thankyou for everything you,Michael and the Emsolation team do to make me laugh, entertain and inform me. Emsolater Kane

S2 of Interview With The Vampire, thoughts?

Have you been watching S2 of Interview With The Vampire? Ep 3 just dropped. I’d love to hear your take on it.

The media industry

My curious (AuDHD) mind always has so many questions about how things work, and since one of the close friends ‘tea time’ sessions I’ve had many questions about the media industry! If you are able, I’d love to know how it works for people who appear ad-hoc on tv shows… perhaps for example the Project. Do you have an annual contract with them or a new contract each time or is no contract needed? How much notice do you get? Do you get to negotiate what you are paid or is it a set rate? How much of your time do you actually have to put into each episode? When there are pre-recorded interviews etc, do you get a choice in these? Do you get to know who your co-hosts will be each time? After actually writing out my list of questions, I feel it’s necessary to explain that I work in finance and HR, and also my Ritalin has not yet kicked in 😂 I would really love if you could explain how it all actually works from a practical point of view, so my magicbrain can move onto the next curiosity 😂 Thank you, much love!
